Partner
Jonathan has over 14 years of private equity and small cap corporate finance experience with particular expertise in the leisure, consumer and marketing services sectors.
On leaving Oxford University in 1995 he joined Hill Samuel, which became Close Brothers Corporate Finance, where he principally focused on the leisure, retail and consumer sectors although also gained experience in the support services and media sectors. He advised on over £1 billion of mid-market transactions, in addition to providing relationship based advice to CEO’s and CFO’s on strategic and financial issues, for clients including De Vere Hotels, Cannons, Pubmaster, Pizza Express, Allied Leisure and Chorion.
After founding the Next Wave Group in 2002, Jonathan gained serial entrepreneurial experience at several consumer companies including Essential Escapes and The Bold Pub Company which he launched and secured funding for, whilst co-investing with family offices and private equity firms on investments originated by Next Wave. Such investments included Insurance Dialogue with Arbor Ventures and Bridges Ventures, Bold Pub Company with Close Ventures (now Albion Ventures), and more recently Essential Escapes with The Capital Fund, amongst others. Next Wave also completed mandates in the healthcare, retail, health and fitness, market research and eco-consumer sectors, culminating in the $400 million acquisition of Courts Caribbean with Actis and Regal Forest Holdings in 2006.
In 2007, Next Wave evolved into a pure private equity investment firm with the launch of its first LP Fund.
Jonathan has experience of all sides of the investment dynamic: being management, being an advisor and being an investor.
Jonathan represents NWP on the Board of The Oxford Research Agency and Petainer. He is also an observer on the Board of Crendo.
